Jack Fletcher
Biography:
Jack Fletcher originally hails from Emerald Isle. Prior to joining the Black Pearl crew Jack made his way about the
islands of the Caribbean, mainly the island of Hispaniola, as a buccaneer.
Jacks origins as to how he became a pirate are still clouded in mystery, and in mystery is where he excels. He has
spoken on occasion about his plight of being sentenced to the colonies for reasons still unknown, but when the ship
that he was captive on ran aground off the island of Hispaniola, Jack made his escape into the island's fabled
mountains.
Over time he befriended the native peoples of the island. He learned much from them including there ways, customs,
and beliefs. As years passed Jack began acting as a guide on the island for various European traders and nations. He
enjoyed this occupation and felt very at home being apart of two different worlds. Jack's pirate past caught up with
him, however, when the powers that sought to sentence him to the colonies attacked his tribe. Upon seeing the
destruction of the people he considered family Jack swore revenge.
Often adorned with trinkets and items of an arcane nature he will often offer to fore tell the future, cast a spell, or
simply delight those he admires with feats of prestidigitation. From this the name “Voodoo Jack” was born. Be it from
a simple sailor’s superstitions or from something else, this yet still remains a mystery.

Voodoo:
A syncretic religion that originated in the Caribbean country of Haiti. It is based upon a merging of the beliefs and
practices of West African peoples (mainly the Fon and Ewe) with Arawakian religious beliefs and Roman Catholic
Christianity. Voodoo was created by African slaves who were brought to Haiti in the 16th century and still followed their
traditional African beliefs, but were forced to convert to the religion of their slavers.
