Will is the only child of William “Bootstrap Bill” Turner. He strongly resembles his father,
both in appearance and physical ability. However, his father was absent during his childhood in
England, and Will grew up believing him to be a merchant seaman. After his mother's death,
Will, at about 12 years old, journeyed to the Caribbean to search for his father. Ironically, his
vessel was attacked and sunk by
the Black Pearl, the same pirate ship his father once served
on.

Will grows up to become a blacksmith's apprentice in Port Royal. Over the years he admires,
from a distance, Elizabeth Swann the Governor's daughter. One night Elizabeth is kidnapped
by the crew of
the Black Pearl, lead by Captain Barbossa and Will, aided by Captain Jack
Sparrow, comes to her rescue. Finally confessing his love for her he learns that she too loves
him and the two set off to be married.

On the day of their wedding he and Elizabeth are arrested by Lord Cutler Beckett of the
East India Trading Company for helping Jack Sparrow escape his execution. Will is sent on a
mission by Beckett to recover an item from Jack Sparrow and in return Elizabeth will be set
free. He eventually meet up with Jack but is soon tricked by him into taking his place amongst
the crew of
the Flying Dutchman, captained by the infamous Davy Jones.

While on the Flying Dutchman Will is reunited with his father, "Bootstrap" Bill. Learning the
truth of "Bootstrap's" past Will promises his father that he will find a way to sever Davy
Jones' hold over him. With his father's help Will eventually escapes the
Dutchman and reunites
with Jack and Elizabeth, who also  escaped her captivity.  Things are not so well, however, as
their lives are now threatened by the Kraken, a fierce sea creature controlled by Davy Jones.
Pirate History:
The Flying Dutchman:
The Flying Dutchman was once a real ship that set sail in 1660 and for more than 300 years it has been the most famous of all maritime
ghost stories. The story is that the ship tried to round Cape of Good Hope and never succeeded, then also attempted Cape Horn and failed. The accursed
ship now sails backwards and forwards on its endless voyage, manned by an ancient crew crying for help as they work the rigging. The superstition is that any
mariner who sees this ghost ship will die within the day.
After a fierce battle Captain Jack Sparrow "sacrifices" himself so that the rest of
the crew has a chance to row safely to shore.

Their lives saved, the remaining crew seeks to help rescue Jack from Davy Jones
Locker, even though it means teaming up with Captain Barbossa, the very man that
tried to kill him a year ago.

After helping rescue Jack from "the Locker" Will aids
the Black Pearl crew in the
battle against the East India Trading Company and
the Flying Dutchman. During
the battle, Will proposes to Elizabeth, and Captain Barbossa marries them amidst
the fighting. As
the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman clash, Davy Jones
mortally wounds Will. As he lies dying, Jack Sparrow saves him by helping him stab
Jones' heart, killing Jones. As "Bootstrap" Bill cuts out Will's heart and places it
in the Dead Man's Chest, Jack and Elizabeth escape before the Dutchman sinks
to the ocean floor. It quickly resurfaces with Captain Will Turner at the helm. With
the Flying Dutchman now on their side, the pirates destroy Cutler Beckett's ship,
and the armada retreats.
Although Will's life has been saved, he is bound for eternity to serve aboard the Dutchman as the
ferryman for souls lost at sea, allowed to step on land once every ten years. Will and Elizabeth
spend this one day on an island and consummate their marriage. Will returns to the Dutchman at
sunset, but before leaving gives Elizabeth the Dead Man's Chest containing his beating heart for
safekeeping.

Ten years later Captain Turner returns to that same island to meet his son, William Turner III,
for the first time.

Although mild-mannered, Will is fiercely loyal to those he cares about and would risk everything
when they, especially Elizabeth, are in danger. At his best, Will is clever, heroic and courageous,
but he can also be preoccupied and brooding.
In the Pirates of the Caribbean© Trilogy the part of William Turner is played by Orlando Bloom.
