Phineas Black was born to a Tortugan wench who kept him locked in the wardrobe, all Phineas
saw of the world was through a small hole. The only time his mother let him out was so he could
steal food and drink for her.  He would have to sit and watch as she ate most of the food only
to give him what little scraps there was left.  Phineas soon started taking more time when sent
out for food, not wanting to go back in the wardrobe anytime soon. He also started developing
quite a skill in stealing. By age ten, Phineas was making a career out of stealing purses and
pocket watches.

At age twelve, Phineas was attempting to steal a pocket watch from a man sitting on a bench.
That man turned out to be Constable John Malcom. Instead of arresting Phineas, the
constable decided to take him in. Phineas lived with the constable for six years, learning to read
and write. He also took quite quickly to drawing. Phineas became a fine young man, far from the
thieving scoundrel he was as a boy. Constable Malcom was very proud of Phineas, always
referring to him as his son. The constable even got Phineas a job as a map maker for Cutler
Beckett with the East Indian Trading Company.

Phineas loved making maps, unlocking the mysteries of newly discovered lands. But things
turned very sour as Phineas learned of plans of the EITC selling slaves. Having spent his
entire childhood a slave to his mother, Phineas was determined to put a stop to the their plans.

He discovered the name of the man in charge of transporting the slaves, Captain Jack
Sparrow.  Phineas stowed away on Jack’s ship,
the Wicked Wench, planning to kill him while
the rest of the crew slept. That night, tucked in the shadows, Phineas over heard Jack talking
to a crewmate about setting the slaves free. Phineas revealed himself at once, volunteering to
help.
When Cutler Beckett found out that Jack Sparrow was freeing the
slaves in Africa, he sanctioned the torching (and sinking) of
the Wicked
Wench
, and branded the entire crew as pirates.

Now, branded a pirate, betrayed by the EITC, Phineas followed in
Jack’s suite, becoming a successful pirate himself. He had always
dreamed of seeing the places he drew on maps, really discovering their
mysteries, so he joined Jack’s crew and sailed the Caribbean. Having
been a master thief as a child, his old habits came back to him like an old
friend. Now he stole more than just purses and pocket watches; jewels,
gold, silver, and priceless works of art were all for Phineas’ taking.
Having an advanced knowledge in maps and navigation it only seemed natural
that Phineas would become
the Black Pearl's Master. Now it is his duty to
set the course to his next adventure.

Pirate History:
Master Crewman:
The ship's master was also sometimes called its pilot. He was responsible for sailing the ship, a specialist in navigation and pilotage, who
directed the ship's course. The 'sailing master' was in charge of navigation. Back then charts were inaccurate or non-existent, so it was a difficult job, and many
were forced, or press-ganged, into pirate service.
