Cutpurse:
One who would cut the strings of purses for the sake of stealing them or their contents. This act was common when men
wore purses fastened by a string to their belts. It was important for a cutpurse to have an open ear, a quick eye and a
nimble hand so as not to be caught.

Name:
Mary Catherine Rayleigh
Biography:
Left on the steps of St Catherine's Church in Bristol England with nothing but "Rayleigh" scrawled on a
parchment tied to her basket, she was taken in by the nuns and named Mary Catherine Rayleigh in honor of
the Holy Virgin, the name of the church, and the mysterious name they found her with.
Little Mary Catherine was raised in the gardens of the convent neighboring St. Catherine's. During this time
she learned about plants and their uses, which also included sedatives and poisons. She often ran messages,
errands and helped deliver the produce to the market, learning the city like the back of her hand in the process.
Making a habit of traveling the city on her own, she quickly befriended the street life of Bristol and in time
gained their protection from the less-honorable low lives of the city. Eventually Mary Catherine abandoned St.
Catherine's to join her friends and their exciting was of life. They taught her how to fight and how to steal and
soon she earned the nickname of Lily Cutpurse. Cutting purse strings became the young woman's specialty,
using her delicate looks and fragile frame to get close to her unknowing targets. The name Lily was taken after
a gift of a hair comb given to her adorned with a small calla lily.
Lily is now a valuable asset to the thieves and pirates who frequent the town, with her extensive network of
friends and people who owed her favors, she has quite the valuable reputation. So now the word goes that if
ever a pirate is in need of something, be it treasure or a safe place to hide, just sail for Bristol and Lily will
find you.
